Cheap Scooters

Cheap scooters are available in all scooter types including electric, motor and gas. These scooters are most often vehicles of inferior quality or defective ones. They may come with machine parts of poor quality. Scooters at much cheaper rates may have plastic rear drive gears instead of metal gears. They may not have any support from manufacturers or dealers to replace machine parts. The manufacturers do not even provide scooter related services to customers.

Cheap scooters may sometimes frustrate users with frequent breakdowns. These scooters are expensive to repair every now and then. At the same time, cheap scooters are dangerous, too. So, it is necessary to follow certain instructions for purchasing such scooters. First, the buyer must check whether the scooters were bought from reputable dealers. Secondly, they should be brand name scooters, and not off brand, no brand or clone models.

In addition, it is necessary to take scooters to a nearby scooter store for a complete service, if possible. This allows the buyer to know about the working condition and the machine parts. In most cases, customers need to buy only certain machine parts from cheap scooters for their used scooters. This helps used scooters to remain in better working condition for some more time.

There are certain points to consider regarding the price. The primary thing is to know the original price for cheap scooters and the amount the dealer charges. This purely depends on the ability of customers. One way to obtain this information is to enquire about price details as a seller for the scooter. Secondly, you should know the amount paid by individuals for that particular model. This gives a clear picture about the amount to be paid for cheap scooters. Otherwise, it is likely that you will be cheated.

Cheap scooters are obtained at about half or even less price, compared to good and quality scooters. Quality 50cc scooters cost $1600 or more. The cost is below $1000 for cheap ones of the same kind. In addition, warranty options for cheap scooters are one or two months. But better quality scooters have at least one year warranty.

Looking for Cheap Batting Cages? Here's some Basic Advice

Cheap batting cages can be found in a number of places. One option is to look in your local newspaper for garage sales or in the ads under sporting equipment for sale. Garage sales would probably be a good place to look for smaller, cheap batting cages. It might also be possible to buy cheap batting cages from a school or recreation facility during an equipment upgrade.

Another option for finding cheap batting cages is to look online. Many sports equipment dealers have web sites, as well as individuals who are selling their sports equipment on the Internet, many of whom will be able to offer good deals. However, you should be careful that you obtain a warranty or guarantee on the item you are purchasing, especially if the item is used. If the item is of lesser quality than you were led to believe, it will be necessary for you to have a means to return it and get your money back.

Even used batting cages typically cost hundreds of dollars, but discounts may be available if you build one yourself. If you’re interested in making your own batting cage, pipe for the frame can be purchased at a hardware store and netting can be purchased from a sports equipment dealer. You can purchase complete batting cage kits online, with varying prices, depending on the size and quality of the cage. Instructions for putting together your own batting cage are usually fairly simple. In addition, you will experience the satisfaction of having built something impressive and useful with your own handss

Toys - Toy Versus Game

There is a fine line between a toy and a game. If you don't think so, look inside the mind of a child and inside the following article. It may just change how you think about what exactly is a toy.

What's the difference? To a little kid, probably not much. And with games that you only need one person to play, such as solitaire, the distinction can be a very fine one. How many of us have heard our mothers yell at us to "put our toys away" and what's in front of use is a chess set that we used to play war with. Kids have wild imaginations. Has that chess set just become a toy?

In most cases there is a very big difference between what is a toy and what is a game, at least according to our adult minds. But in the hands of a child, either one can be, well, either one.

Dominoes is a great game for two people. There is quite a bit of strategy involved in putting out just the right piece so as to block your opponent from being able to do anything and thus forcing him to pick up a domino. But did you ever see those things in the hands of a small child who's stringing them along the floor in what is turning into a maze of wonders. With the number of dominoes in a set, the number of different mazes that child can make is virtually without limit. So go and tell him that his bunch of dominoes are not toys.

Getting back to our chess example. We all know that a game of chess is one of the most complex games of thought ever created and it takes a superior mind to play well. But did you ever see a kid set up a chess board and start to move the two armies towards each other? As the pawns approach and get within striking distance you're only seconds away from seeing pieces fly all over the place. And so see the knight get up on top of the castle (isn't that what knights do)? and start firing arrows or swords at the opposing bishop is a sight to be seen. And then finally, to see the cat fight between the two queens as the kings stand by and watch is like watching the battle of the titans. Chess pieces can be great toys. And if you've got those new chess pieces that are designed after popular movie characters like Star Wars or Lord Of The Rings, well, who needs real toys?

Take a simple game of cards and it doesn't matter which card game you choose. Did you ever see a kid start to fling those things around the room? They make great projectiles and if you're not careful as an adult passing by, those cards can easily take out an eye. Not to mention the great card castles that you can make. Heck, we all do it. And don't think they're so easy. Kids seem to have a gift when it comes to that stuff.

The truth is, just about any game can be taken apart and turned into a toy. But for the sake of the remainder of articles in this series, we're going to concentrate on toys that were not meant to be made into games.

Not to say they don't ultimately end up as one.

Pool Toys - Games and Relaxation

The primary reasons people swim in the summer are to cool off, relax and have fun. Pool toys help you relax and have fun. After you dive in the water and get cooled off, what next? You could go lay out and read a book, or not. It's a lot more fun to get out your pool toys.

There are pool games for large groups and also for small groups.

Large Groups

Volleyball:

Pool volleyball or pool basketball are the most fun for large groups. If you have a wide variety of ages (i.e. grandparents with grandkids) you should definitely go with volleyball.

Basketball:

Works best with those of similar age and athletically inclined. It is a difficult game to play if you can't swim or jump very well.

Small Groups

Remote Control Toys:

A remote control sailboat or fish are the most popular. These toys can be fun in small groups or alone. If you get a remote control sailboat, you can also take it to the lake.

Dive Toys:

Fins and snorkel can enhance swimming. Other diving toys are pirate coins and sunken treasure(there are many styles to choose from). When I was a kid we used to take the lid off an old mason jar to dive for.

Relaxation Pool Toys

Remote Lounge:

A foam lounge is very popular. It has more stability than inflatable lounges. There is a remote lounge that has a joystick to move around in the water.

Coolers:

Coolers make is so you don't have to go into the house a lot. You can put your floating cooler in the pool with you and use your remote lounge to get yourself drinks.

Music:

There is a waterproof case that floats your ipod and speakers. In addition, you may consider some wireless outdoor speakers that are shaped like landscaping.

Final Tip

The mainstay pool toys are inflatable arm bands (for children), noodles and inflatable rings.

Educational Toys Help Children's' Learning

We live in a day and age where children are watching TV and playing video games all of the time. Sure, it may seem as if video games and television stimulate a child's brain, but many times kids are sitting there like zombies. Unless the television show is an educational show that doesn't bore the child or the video game is something that involves a certain degree of strategy, they're not getting too much out of these two things. Most of all, they are not exactly using their imaginations in a world that requires its occupants to be imaginative in order to survive personally and occupationally.

As convenient as television and video games are at keeping the kids busy and behaved, it is time for parents to rebel. The revolt begins as the child develops by using such things as educational toys. Adults use puzzles, brain teasers, and other things that require thought to keep their minds sharp. It has been shown that adults who stay on top of their game with activities that make them think are taking an active measure toward preventing Alzheimer's. By incorporating such things into a child's life and keeping those activities as part of their life, a parent is taking an active role in ensuring that their child's mind stays sharp. It is also important to emphasize to that child how important such activities are as an adult so that they can take a preventive measure toward diseases such as Alzheimer's and dementia.

Educational toys

Educational toys come in many different types and are available for children as soon as they learn how to grab things. They can be something as simple as a puppet or matching shapes. The child is forced to think and the colorful pieces that come with these toys make the activity interesting. What makes these activities even more interesting is when the parent is involved and praising the child when the child is successful.

Starting these activities early means that the child is going to get a developmental head start and will be using strategy easily by the time he or she begins kindergarten. Your child will have the mental maturity needed to make it through the world if you start stimulating their brains early and making it fun to learn. When kids don't have fun learning is when they have learning difficulties throughout their entire lives. This isn't always the case, but it has been known to happen. Many children loathe learning for one reason or another, so using educational toys can make it fun and rewarding.

Keeping it up

There are educational toys for children of all ages, so it is good to always make sure there are fun educational toys around the house that are age or intelligence appropriate. And yes, there are some wonderful brain teasers and other educational games on video game systems and computers. When the child reaches a certain age, using these as learning tools can be great. There are also great television programs that make a child think and make learning fun. It is just a matter of placing restrictions on how much time is spent using these electronic tools and making sure there is plenty of time that you and your child are doing fun learning activities together. By taking a time out and doing these activities with your child, you are not only stimulating their brain, but you are actually stimulating your own. The two of you are also spending quality time together in a world that makes quality time very difficult. So it is easy to see how educational toys can benefit you and your child in more ways than just learning.

Mastermind Toys offers a wide range of children's toys and educational toys for kids of all ages.

Educational Baby Games and Toys

Educational Baby games and toys are so important, they stimulate your babies brain, creating interest and arousing curiosity for further development of their mind. When your baby is born their eyesight is blurry. In the first two months of their life they can only focus on objects eight to ten inches in front of him, so the first colours your baby sees are black, white and red. Lets make their environment exciting.

Education Baby games and toys should be bright. The brighter the better! Bright colours, moving objects, classical music and textured toys will all help to stimulate your baby, as he begins to discover his whole new world.

Baby educational games and toys will help your baby to learn about the world in a fun and safe way, they will have more fun with a toy if it's stimulating to the sense of sight, hearing, touch, taste or smell than they would if it was just cute or pretty.

As your baby grows, you will want educational toys that help your child learn eye-hand coordination and develop their large and small motor-control skills, you will also need educational baby games and toys that stimulate social and language development, imagination, and creativity.

The first senses babies use to learn, are sight and sound. When your baby is born their favourite sight is you, and they love to hear your voice. Now you can sing to your hearts content, they will love it.

So what else do baby need?

Not a lot, so don't go over the top with toys, they don't need it and neither does your bank account. It won't be long before they will want every toy and game there is, so be sensible while you can.

Interaction is your great fun learning game, seeing you, listening to you, giggling and laughing at you. But you cannot be your child's only entertainment system, you will need some time out!

So lets look at some other toys and games that your baby will love.

Up to eight weeks old your babies favourite sight and sounds are human faces and voices, they will also enjoy watching brightly coloured mobiles, wind-chimes and cot-toys, if clearly in view, they will focus best on hand-held toys that are 8 inches from their face and will respond to soft music and being rocked gently.

At twelve weeks your baby can focus for longer on mobiles and cot-toys, they will also be able to see them at a greater distance. He will show a preference for bright colours and look at them for longer, but he will still have more interest in human faces and large pictures of faces, he will also enjoy wrist rattles, musical toys and squeaky toys.

From three to six months he will start to grasp a toy that is placed in his hand, and will begin to reach for toys. Your babies favourite early toys will be lightweight rattles and colourful teething rings, he will have learned to use both hands and will start to play with foam bricks, soft balls, cuddly soft toys or grip-toys with an internal squeak.

He will love floor activities up to the age of nine months, large bright activity quilts are a good idea, as is a activity centres. He will also love colourful toys with interesting designs and textures to study during quiet play, and of course, noisy toys for rattling and banging will have them enjoying and laughing.

Their first books should be brightly illustrated and made from "Chew Proof" card or Textured Fabrics, push and pull along toys will encourage walking and be a great aid for balancing.

Learning to walk is a fabulous time for your baby, but can be testing on you, as they will be everywhere, and while trying out their newfound skill, there will be bumps, cries and tears, and some of those will be yours.

The average ages for walking is between nine and thirteen months, but remember, this is only guideline so don't be concerned if they're not quite on the move yet.

The timing is determined by your baby's muscle strength, his ability to balance and most importantly, his personality, his motivation and confidence. The weight of your baby may also play a part; a heavier baby will take longer to get up on their feet.

Give plenty of praise when he starts walking, they need encouragement just like we do, but don't try to rush him along if he's not quite ready, if he is pushed to quickly he may go back to crawling until he feels ready to give it another go.

Walking Aids or 'Walkers' come in many shapes and sizes, from simple baby learning toys such as Building Block Trolleys to Walkers that develop from simple aids to ride on toys, as you toddler's skills develop.

Baby ride on toys, are great for developing and strengthening the muscles in his legs and arms, the best one of all, has to be The Rocking Horse. This is excellent for learning to keep their balance and start their pretend play, there are others such as sea-saw and trikes, but you can't beat the classics.

This form of play benefits all toddlers. It improves mood, appetite and quality of sleep and brings better general health, it also develops their muscles, increases their strength and agility, and improves their co-ordination,

Just a quick note about the First Pair of Shoes

While your baby is still crawling, shoes are largely there for decoration, although it's important that they are not too small.

When children start to walk, they often curl their toes, so it's better for children to go barefoot or wear socks for as long as possible. The bones in a child's feet are very soft and can easily be damage, which can lead to posture problems.

Wait until your child is walking unaided, and ready to walk outside, before buying his first pair of shoes and please get his feet measured by someone who's properly qualified.

But it's not just baby games that your baby will need, he'll also enjoy physical contact and will enjoy being massaged, and this will help relax your baby, keep his joints flexible and encourage muscle coordination.

Massage will also give you confidence in handling your baby and help you get to know him.

Ask your doctor about massaging your baby, it is important to get the right information before you start.

Food is a brilliant way for children to learn it stimulates your baby's sense of taste and smell by allowing him a wide variety of tastes and textures, it is important to allow your baby to experiment and see how your baby reacts to different foods and varying taste.

Eating food with his hands is natural and beneficial, and should be encourage.

So many children come to fear food by having to eat everything on the plate, others become fussy eaters through not being taught to experiment with food.

Most importantly remember that you are your baby's super hero; he looks up to you for the best start in life and what you do and how you react in his environment, will be reflected in him, he will follow in your footsteps.

You can make a difference

Your baby will grow more now, in the first year of his or her little life than at any other time, both physically and mentally.

How safe are your children's toys?

It's a sad fact that many of the most dangerous toys are favourites. Thousands of cheap, unsafe toys are finding their way onto the market place with little being done to stop them. How many unsafe toys are there on the shelves that we just don't know about?

It's a sad fact that many of the most dangerous toys are favourites. Thousands of cheap, unsafe toys are finding their way onto the market place with little being done to stop them. How many unsafe toys are there on the shelves that we just don't know about? Potentially dangerous toys are a serious issue, but the scale of the problem is not yet big enough to spark an exodus of U. Despite industry standards and ongoing improvements, dangerous toys are still widely available and sold. Dangerous toys can be classed as toys with parts that young children can choke on, stick up their nose, or otherwise hurt themselves with: sharp corners, fast-moving, massive projectiles, etc. Children's toys can become dangerous if they are misused or if they fall into the hands of children who are not old enough to play with them. Just looking around car boot and garage sales will show you where most of the older and dangerous toys are bought and sold. People think they are getting a bargain but what is the real cost?

Millions of dangerous toys which are for sale on shelves are being recalled every day because of various reasons. There are several different factors that can make a toy dangerous. Toys with magnets are high on the list due to the lead content, and the fact that young children can swallow, or push the small detachable parts in the toys where they shouldn't go. Many toys that are recalled have high levels of lead in the surface paint; lead being dangerous because it is poisonous. Any kinds of magnets in your toys should put the toy high on the dangerous toys list. The majority of dangerous toys have little parts which can be removed and swallowed by a young child. Toy parts that can easily become lodged in a child’s throat have led to many incidents of death and brain damage yet can still be found in newly designed toys. You should check all toys for loose or small parts which you feel may be dangerous to your kids. It is also dangerous for your kids to play with toys which are meant for older children. From time to time, inspect your kids' toys for any wear and tear which can make them dangerous. .

Toys and games represent a thirty (30) billion-dollar-a-year industry. Toys caused an estimated 150,000 visits to the emergency room last year. Toys should be solid, strong and well made. Toys should have lasting interest and not just be the latest on the market. You can visit the Consumer Product Safety Commission CPSC website. They publish a list of toy recalls. Parents and children alike have a right to expect that the toys they select and play with are designed with the child's safety in mind. The first line of defence for toy safety must be safe design and manufacture. The current state is that many parents will never know when a product has been recalled.

Protecting our children from unsafe toys will always remain the majority of parent’s number one concern, but when will it become the number one priority within toy industry and the government regulatory bodies. The toy companies, retailers and the Government must listen and act when dangerous toys are brought to their attention so that we don t see the same hazards and the same injuries reappearing year after year. Dangerous toys are not as common as they used to be, but they are still out there. Parents, guardians and carers still must continue to check that the toys they are buying are correctly labelled with the CE mark confirming the toy is safe. Where, for example, dangerous toys are being sold that could cause serious injury to unsuspecting children, the Office of Fair Trading must be able to remove those toys from outlets.

Multi-Featured Electronic Toys For Kids of All Ages

There are all kinds of toys available now in the market, ranging from very traditional wooden painted blocks to very techno multi-featured electronic toys like robots, interactive video games etc. Electronic toys have a wider market now when compared to the market scenario about a decade back. Well acclaimed toy manufacturers like V-Tech, Fisher Price and Leap Frog are some of the more popular manufacturers of Electronic toys.

Earlier on, it was a common assumption among buyers of toys that electronic toys are only for grown up kids. That was probably because then the market for electronic toys was also quite limited. But now, electronic toys for younger children aged between 3 and 6 years are also available. The electronic toys for this age group are generally more user friendly and with simple features. The simplest example would be of toys that run with batteries like an electronic train, vehicles, miniature musical instrument toys like piano, keyboard and the talking doll etc.

Of course now the variety of electronic toys available is mind-blowing. It's interesting to see how these toy manufacturers convert products that are ordinarily used by adults - like cell phones, DVD systems etc. - into miniatures that are known as sophisticated electronic toys. Though the options are many when it comes to these toys, one has to use discretion to decide which toys offer entertainment plus learning for your children. It's easy to get carried away with multi-featured techno toys that often represent the ever-growing competition among kids to collect the most popular toys.

Toys have now acquired a new-age definition, they are not just meant to entertain and amuse but they are very well part of education and training strategies too. It gives an interesting perspective to look at the toys that have been acclaimed as the most popular and in-demand electronic toys. Especially if you are parent to a fast growing child and like to know what kind of toys your kid will want to buy now, you will appreciate this information.

Among the top-most electronic toys are Electronic Cell phones that serve as a glorified walky-talky. It's comparatively a new toy, but most of the electronic toys shops have it now. It works almost like a cell-phone and allows you to talk to your friends that are within two kilometers radius; you can also send text messages. It works on batteries and has an in-built digital camera too. Other popular toys include interactive robots that can sense anything or anyone moving around them.

Also are robots that come with specific characteristics like the kind who change their expressions and dance when you play music to them. There are other toys that can alternatively qualify as electronic gadgets more than toys, like the Pen-top computers. These toy computers are capable of playing music, solving your math problems and much more. Fly Pen-top computer is one such toy that had also won the most popular toy award recently. Interactive story telling units and loads of other such DVD and computer based games have flooded the market and choices are plenty.

Nurturing Intelligence - The Role of Games, Toys and Puzzles in Development

I have always treated and considered puzzles from an educational standpoint, for the reason that they constitute a species of mental gymnastics which sharpen the wits and train the mind to reason along straight lines. Puzzles are a school for cleverness and ingenuity.

-Sam Lloyd (1841-1911)

The above quote by one of the world's greatest puzzle masters, written much before the emergence of the fields of cognitive psychology and neurology, sheds light on what is now being confirmed by advanced tools and research in the realms of cognitive development.

Studies have confirmed that the interaction with stimulating learning games along with objects to explore, increases the number of branches on the nerve cells in the brain and can promote better learning

[1]. Furthermore, a team led by Torkel Klingberg at the Karolinska Institute, part of the Stockholm Brain Institute, has found signs that the neural systems that underlie working memory (a cognitive function related to general intelligence) may grow in response to training

[2]. Regarding the neural basis for development and plasticity of cognitive functions during childhood, in particular the development of attention and working memory, this information shows that correct training and educational exposure can yield sustained attention, better impulse control and improved learning ability, as well as correct critical learning deficits

[3]. Historically, a person's IQ - a measure of all kinds of mental problem-solving abilities, including spatial skills, memory and verbal reasoning - was thought to be fixed by nature - locked into a person's genes. However, Dr. Beth Lucy Wellman (1895-1952), a professor of child psychology at the Iowa Child Welfare Research Station was instrumental in advancing her findings that a child's IQ and scholastic performance depend on the quality of intellectual stimulation and social environment

[4]. Leading the way for the type of research currently being conducted as to what type of nurture will provide the best medium to develop a child's abilities. What, in particular, compose the "positive, nurturing environments that encourage interaction and response - the conditions for developing the more complex neural networks that appear to be the 'hardware' of intelligence"

[5]. Many psychologists and researchers have come to a decidedly intuitive and simple conclusion, one that hearkens back to the words of Sam Lloyd: Child's play - Fostering children at play through enriching games, puzzles and activities - and in doing so, nurturing major cognitive functions and crucial developmental stages. Children who are furnished with construction toys, such as wooden cubes and geometric puzzles develop visual-spatial abilities that are related to math and science achievement.

[6]. These types of toys can stimulate visual/spatial thinking and problem solving, demonstrating skills vital to "future engineers, architects, pilots, mathematicians, scientists, computer programmers or technicians, entrepreneurs, artists musicians, mechanics, human relations professionals, or spiritual leaders"

[7]. Furthermore, the skills developed through the interaction with tangible 3-D toys and geometrical puzzles that stimulate visual spatial learning are reinforced through haptic perception - the tactile perception through the skin and kinesthetic perception of the position and movement of the joints and muscles, a developmentally important experience lacking in computerized models and games. The development of executive function, the activity of the brain that is responsible for the ability to manage organization, priority-setting, time management, and decision making is dependent on the high order processes of elective attention, behavioral planning and response inhibition, as well as the manipulation of information in problem-solving tasks.

[8]. It is crucial for children as they mature into young adults and its function in self-regulation is incredibly important. Poor executive function is associated with high dropout rates, drug use and crime, whereas good executive function is a better predictor of success in school than a child's IQ, as well as effective development in almost every domain.

[9]. Children develop executive functions through "learning to be organized, using a routine, purposeful scenarios for problem solving and higher order thinking"

[10]. These are all features of many simple wooden toys and brainteasers. Unfortunately, many of today's games and toys are overly structured, goal-oriented, and push the child to follow predetermined scripts, whether through guided computer activity, or by actively directing the play of the child through talking, lights, buttons and levers. To counteract this, in addition to giving the child "unstructured" play time, toys that don't command the child, but rather leave the child in command, can be very useful. Professor Hirsh-Pasek, of Temple University, Philadelphia, recommends searching the "least traveled aisles" in toyshops to parents who "really want to prepare their children for life in next generation"

[11]. Traditional wooden toys make a pleasing change from the noisy, flashing plastic equivalents that fill the shelves of toyshops today. It has also been shown that toys and puzzles with distinct, ordered solutions that require time, patience and planning to solve yield added benefits to the learning process within the exciting moment of recognition in which the correct solution is achieved. The authors of a review on Engineering Education at Indiana University posit this "ah-ha!" moment as an "important cognitive event" of the learning process. Specifically it "enhances performance in creative problem solving and creative design, and it can play a role in transforming learning from an activity of drudgery to one of enjoyment.

[12]. The search for a solution to challenging puzzles produces such "ah-ha!" moments, which in turn can lead to the development of students who will find learning exciting later in life. On the macro level, toys, games and child's play crucial to neural and cognitive development also have specific functions within particular stages of childhood. Using the Constructivist Theory of child development, advanced by Jean Piaget, many psychologists have advised parents and educators to structure the physical environment of children so that learning and development occur naturally, and in appropriate stages, through the interaction with the environment and people around them.
Again, appropriate materials are necessary to this structuring, including toys and games that stimulate interaction. Various Mind Twisters, Brain Teasers, and Geometric Riddles and Puzzles are essential to give children and students a chance to manipulate objects and test out ideas and hypothesis as they progress to Middle Childhood.

[13] board games and others with specific rules have been shown to enhance discrete skills as well as cooperation, understanding and logical thinking. For example, researchers working at the National Association for the Education of Young Children in Washington, D.C recently found a correlation between math achievement and students' exposure to board games at home.

[14]. Furthermore, in today's high tech world, it is interesting to note that when it comes to games, toys and puzzles, the more traditional, simple, tactile, loosely structured, visual/spatial offerings can make a very significant contribution to a child's intelligence and developmental well-being. Thus, it is not a surprise that Sam Lloyd, speaking 100 years ago, is still relevant to the discussion of education and the development of intelligence today.

Virtual Pet Games - What's Online for Kids

Virtual pet games are some of the hottest activities now for kids online. But did you know that there are a number of different types of virtual pets - and not all of them are as sweet and innocent as they might seem!

Generally speaking, there are three types of virtual pets: downloadable (download the software and run the games on your own computer), direct online virtual pets and what I call "dual pets", which are real plush animals that can also be cared for online by entering a special code that comes with the toy.

Downloadable virtual pets are fun, and can be played without being online - after the software is downloaded. There is a downside to this option, however, which is that unless the software is from a well-known reputable source, you are running the risk of downloading a virus along with the game - which would be no fun at all! (If you go to one of the free download sites, you may even see a warning note along the top or bottom of the webpage about this.)

Direct Online virtual pets are - just as the name implies - played directly online, without the need to download the software to play. Usually this involves registered membership with the site in order to maintain the ownership of the pet. This option is fine, but again unless the site is properly secured you can run the risk of bumping into a virus that can quickly mess up your computer - but good!

My advice on both of the above is - first and foremost, make sure that you have standard and upgraded virus protection for your computer! (If you've ever experienced a nasty virus, you will likely understand the extreme importance of this.)

The third type of online pet ("dual pets") in my opinion are the best way to go. They're relatively inexpensive (around $10 to $15 per new pet) and well worth the price that is paid. Here's how it works: These types of pets are real-world, in other words they are plush stuffed animals that children can play with just as they do other types of toys, but they have a code printed on a card that comes along with them that allows access to websites allowing children to feed, clothe, give medicine to and even decorate homes for their pets. With this type of online game, the sites are extremely secure (so no risk of unwittingly adopting a virus along with the pet) and there are many other types of activities that go along with the site such as educational games, kids chat rooms (also safe) and other fun stuff for little ones.

The most popular of these are Webkinz plush pets (very popular) and Russ Berrie's Shining Stars.

No matter what type of virtual pet is adopted, the game of caring for one is quite entertaining, and many times educational as well.

Have fun!

Importance Of Toys For Kids

Playtime is one of the most fundamental parts of childhood development. Children play in a variety of ways with a number of different toys. Each activity has a different affect on development. Toys and other objects are important extensions of a young child.

Children have played with toys throughout history and in all cultures. So development toys promote children’s well-being. Toys have main role in children’s play with one another and help them develop in public. Toys are vital tools that help foster the mental, physical, emotional and social development of boys and girls. Toys are basic instruments for the development of children’s fantasy, thoughts and creativity. Outdoor baby toys support the right to play in childhood which is essential to healthy child development. Children gain a strong foundation for learning through play. Playtime is fun. Young children love to explore and discover new things about the world around them and about themselves.

Tips for buying toys for kids

Look for toys that are age appropriate for the child playing with the toy. Read toy instructions before buying the toy to ensure that instructions are clear and review warnings. Buy educational toys that require directions, cooperation and rules are important in learning sharing and social skills.
After buying these toys, keep all toys, especially plush and soft baby toys, away from heat sources like stoves, fireplaces and heaters - they could catch fire and burn a child. Check toys often for hazards like loose parts, broken pieces or sharp edges, and repair or discard any weak or broken toys. Choose a ride on toys that suits the child's age, size and abilities.
Good toys engage your child's interest and passion for fun, while they develop his physical, mental, and emotional self. Look for toys that fit your child's interests, and then add some surprises to expand his world.

Why You Should Give Your Children Outdoor Toys

It seems like almost every week, we hear about how our children are overweight. I'm not sure about you, but I particularly hate the hear word "obese" when describing a child. It may sound like I am on a soapbox, but before we put our children on medication for the rest of their lives, it is our job as parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and other favored adults to help our children get outside and get active.

Many of us can relate to what it is like to be overweight. I didn't have too much of a problem until after high school but throughout my adult life I have been going up and down in weight. Currently? My weight is good but it's an everyday struggle to watch what I eat and make sure I get enough exercise - and I'm almost 50 and I am in control of my body. I'm sure many of you reading this can relate to that comment. Now imagine being 5 and really not in control of yourself. It's up to your family to make sure you get exercise and eat properly, right?

One thing our children need today is encouragement to get out of the house and play. So as parents, how can we encourage our kids to be active every single day? Signing your kids up for an outdoor team sport such as baseball, soccer, or tennis is a great way if you are able to afford the weekly fees and cost of getting your child started. If this isn't an option for you, investing in a few outdoor toys will help motivate your children to venture outdoors.

Why outdoor toys? Outdoor toys are helpful in developing many skills during children's playtime. In addition, outdoor toys are an excellent way for children to enjoy the fresh air and get some exercise at the same time while tending to be durable and easy to clean. Playhouses, climbing frames, trampolines, pedal cars, and swing sets are some of the most popular outdoor toys purchased by families today but don't forget about classic outdoor games such as hopscotch, tag, kickball and more.

Kids love board games and they will always be classic way for children to learn simple skills like math, color balance and coordination. These toys are available in giant versions which you can take outside, giving more space, fresh air and getting the children out of the house. Some great choices to consider in this category are an outdoor bowling set, soccer set or t-ball set for smaller children and playhouses. Also, many of the toys in this category may be brought in the house during the cooler months and played indoors.

Don't forget water! What child doesn't love to play in the water? Kiddie pools are available in many popular character themes such as pirates and dinosaurs, different colors and many with built in activity stations. The pool toys you select will only add to the enjoyment with water guns and canons, kick boards, lifejackets, inflatable water wings, retrieval toys, rafts and loungers, inflatable sharks, tubes, inflatable basketball hoops, seat rings and beach balls to name a few.

Investing in a few outdoor toys will help make outdoor playing time enjoyable for your children - and you too!

Denise Sanger is the Vice President of a Toy Company that specializes in swimming pool/bath tub toys. She also owns and operates NewCoolToysOnline.com that carries a large selection of outdoor toys for active and outdoor play including ride on cars, pool toys, pedal cars, playground toys, and creative toys.

Building Your Own Toys and Games

In the past many people used to build toys and games to play with because they could not afford to buy them. They would make simple things that they really enjoyed and things that were fun for the entire family. Most of that seems to be a lost art now and many people have either forgotten how to do it or they have lost interest in it in the face of the technology that is available today. There are still some people, though, who enjoy making things with their hands and prefer to play games that are not played on the television. These kinds of people might really enjoy making a Cornhole game. This game is often called the bean bag toss but no matter what name is used the basics remain the same. One of the basics about the game is that people who really enjoy it often also enjoy making their own boards and bags with which to play it. These can be purchased as well if a person is not comfortable with making his or her own.

People with basic woodworking skills and standard tools are capable of making their own Cornhole boards, and Cornhole bags require only rudimentary sewing skills. To build a Cornhole board you need a little bit of time and a good piece of wood that will hold up. The board is essentially a slab on an angle with a hole in it. The hole is where the bags are tossed at and they score points if they go through it. They also score points if they land on the board and stay there but this is not worth as much. Because the board is such a simple design there are easy ways to construct one and free plans for building your own can be found on the Internet. Make sure that you get plans from someone who knows what he or she is doing. You do not want to spend time and effort and money on building your own Cornhole game only to have it be done incorrectly. You might have to start over at that point, and that gets expensive and frustrating. People who take the time to research what they are doing often fare a lot better when it comes to building their own game.

The bags are also something that a lot of people want to make on their own. These can be sewn on a machine by someone who has the skill and the knowledge. However, they can also be sewn by hand. People who enjoy sewing, or even people who just know how to sew simple seams, can make Cornhole bags. This is important because there are a lot of people out there with the skills to do this. They can personalize the game the way they want to with different colors and whatever they choose to fill the bags with. As long as they are the right size and weight a person can make the game bags his or her own.

Dave Roth runs a site that sells cornhole games. In addition to free building dimensions and rules, the site also carries discount cornhole bags boards.

Baby Games

These days, all parents want their children to be the brightest in town. They spend a lot of money on educational toys and games that are supposed to make their kids extremely clever. It seems to be such a wonderful idea to do so. In contrast, there are other parents who are concerned that their children are growing up too quickly for their age. The world is full of contrasts and we as parents need to decide whether we want our kids to enjoy the childhood phase of their lives, or whether we want them to become super intelligent beings at a very tender age.

Things have been hyped up to such an extent that even baby toys are now being marketed as objects of mind inspiration. Baby toys are being made in bright colors for mind stimulation. There are still other baby toys that come with common phrases recorded in French, German and several other foreign languages. Many parents question the advantage of such toys for babies who have yet to learn and speak in their own basic language. Babies should be allowed to be babies, and given toys that help them be just that. It has been found that the best toys for babies are the ones that roll and rattle and emit sounds when squeezed, because they help them understand how things move and make noises; in addition such toys hold their attention for long periods of time and make them giggle and be happy.

When my daughter was still an infant, I devoted all my efforts on making sure that she enjoyed her childhood. I only got her toys in bright colors, that made nice sounds, were cute and that were cuddly. I found that my selection of her baby toys helped her no end in enjoying her childhood.

One of my better purchases for my daughter was not even a toy; it was a video. She seemed to be captivated when she saw the Baby Einstein videos. The colors and the music held her attention for the duration of the video. I am certain that she was learning and that her brain was being motivated without any harm to her.

You can never make a mistake when you buy baby toys for your infants. The toys may require your baby to lie on their tummies to help brace their muscles; but then this is something that all infants need to do. On the other hand, you may be more interested in teaching your baby different sounds and colors. Irrespective of what your baby's favourite toy is, their minds are being stimulated all the time. It is my considered opinion that we should not waste our time and efforts in making a genius of our infant. Instead, we should always try to bring up happy, healthy and intelligent kids. There is no need to force ourselves and our babies to go beyond the realms of a natural, happy and healthy growth for them.

16 Red Flags That Your Teen Needs Counseling

A variety of behavioral and emotional problems afflict teenage youngsters. For example, some of them seem to have great difficulty following rules and behaving in socially acceptable ways.

They are often viewed by other children, adults or social agencies as bad apples, bipolar, ADHD or troublemakers. If your teenager exhibits some of the following behaviors, you should consider counseling for him or her:

1. Hostile or violent behavior toward people or animals,

2. The use of threatening, bullying or intimidating behavior,

3. The starting of fights,

4. Carries a dangerous weapon that could cause serious harm to others.g. a bat, brick, broken bottle, knife or gun),

5. Behaves cruelly, physically or emotionally, to either people or animals,

6. Steals,

7. Highly aggressive or demanding sexually,

8. Destroys property,

9. Sets fires, intending to cause damage,

10. Is deceitful,

11. Has broken into a building, house, or car belonging to someone else,

12. Lies to avoid responsibilities,

13. Shoplifts,

14. Often stays out at night, despite your objections,

15. Has run away from home,

16. Has been truant.

If your child has exhibited any of these behaviors, you should seek a comprehensive evaluation of him by a psychologist. He or she may also have parallel conditions such as a mood disorder, anxiety, PTSD, a substance abuse problem, ADHD, or a thought disorder, all of which should also be evaluated.

Your youngster is likely to have ongoing problems if he or she fails to receive early and comprehensive counseling. Without it, he or she will continue to be unable to adapt to the demands of adulthood.

Unfortunately, he or she will continue to be at high risk for having problems with relationships, school, effective socialization and even maintaining a job. If your kid relishes the breaking of laws and behaves dangerously, numerous factors may be contributing, including brain damage, history of child abuse, genetics, persistent academic failure and/or traumatic life experiences.

Treatment of your son or daughter can be complex and challenging. However, it can be provided in a variety of different settings depending on the severity of the behavior.

Counseling with these kids can be very challenging because they often have an uncooperative attitude and a fear and distrust of adults and other authority figures. In developing a comprehensive treatment plan, a child and adolescent psychologist will likely use information gleaned from your child, your family members, his or her teachers and other behavioral specialists in order to understand the causes of his or her problems.

Counseling and psychotherapy is usually necessary to help your child in appropriately expressing and controlling anger; special education programs may also be needed if he or she has any learning disabilities.

You will probably need expert help in carrying out any special management or educational programs that may be prescribed for use at home or in his or her school. Besides counseling, treatment may also include medication if your youngster has difficulty paying attention, managing his or her impulses or coping with high levels of depression or anxiety.

Treatment may not be brief since establishing new attitudes and behavior patterns for him or her will take time. However, early treatment offers your child a better chance for considerable improvement and hope for a more successful future.

Choosing the appropriate word puzzles can be very important in developing confidence within your child

Word puzzles have been around for years. They can educate, entertain, and exercise the brain of any child. They can develop many skills within a child and also help to maintain those skills within adults. It is very important to choose the appropriate word puzzles for any child. They can either stimulate their learning and help them to grow, or can also frustrate them if they find the puzzles to challenging. One must be careful in choosing a game that is appropriate and well suited to the age and capabilities of the recipient.

Giving a child word puzzles that are beyond their mental grasp can lead to feelings of failure and inadequacy, and may turn them off to this excellent form of mental exercise. In the opposite direction a child will lose interest if the game is to easy and not challenging enough for the level they may be at. One must find just the right balance that will stimulate as well as provide hours of enjoyment and fun for that particular person. Choose a game carefully and check the manufactures age recommendations.

Knowing if your child has an active or a passive type personality is very important in finding the appropriate word puzzles. The market today has many types to choose from. One may choose games that match their wits with a competitor, while others may opt for solitude games such as crossword puzzles.

Some of the top word puzzles today include: Scrabble, Upwords, Boogle, 25 Words or Less, and Double Quick. Computerized versions of these games can also be found, but these may prove to be less social and interactive then sitting around a table with others and enjoying stimulating conversation.
